Janz & i: Going East (China, Japan)

by JanizB

The West Gate welcomes us!-by mmc
February 8, 2012 - China and Japan in just one day. Yes, believe it or not, I and May wandered through these places in just 6 hours.

First destination was the Chinese garden. Upon entering this garden, the seven-storey pagoda will catch everyone’s attention. We also took this opportunity to climb this pagoda and feel the cold breeze upstairs.

WARMING UP! This 7-storey pagoda really squeezed out our sweats and breath. Accordingly, the odd number of floors symbolize continuity.  -by janz

A SHORT CUT PLEASE! This is inside the pagoda. Like a shell, huh... -by janz
MULAN. Nearby the 7-storey pagoda are China's heroes. -by janz

A little bit of walk and we reached the twin pagoda. A twin of three-storey pagodas facing a body of water….
YES, JANZ, YOUR TWIN SIS IS....THERE. - by mmc
WHITE IS...the cloud, pagoda, building, me (err my shirt & shoes). -by janz

A place that really attracted May's eyes was the abundance garden. We were wondering why it was called such. Then upon entering, we finally realized that all the animal statues are by pairs – hmmm, abundance!
HMM, VERY ABUNDAT, hihi... -by mmc
NOW, this is getting to abundance, heha... -by janz

There was also a turtle museum in which we have encountered more than a hundred varied turtles/tortoises from different countries. A Chinese businessman (sorry, forgot the name) collected and organized this endeavor. Take note, this is the largest collection in the world of turtles/tortoises as confirmed by Guinness World Book of Records.

Oops, traffic jam. No pushing please... -by janz
SMILE! Some turtles are left to roam around freely so one needs to be mindful of his steps.   -by mmc

Cool! They're vegetarians, heha... -by mmc/janz

Across the Chinese Garden is the Japanese Garden. An awesome bridge connects these two.

The Bridge of Double Beauty connects the Chinese and Japanese gardens. -by mmc

There, we saw the stone lanterns artistically distributed at a vale.
Accordingly, the Japanese Garden (also called Seiwaen) may not be as visually stimulating as the Chinese Garden but it evokes feelings...ahemmm... -by mmc

Hills are covered with bountiful green grasses and flowers that are really blooming and beautiful.
This is a kusari doi, a creative Japanese rain chain (which i think, we can adopt in every household, recycling plastic bottles). -by janz

The journey ended at about 6 o'clock in the evening and we’re back to reality that we’re still in Singapore.
Having fun with the BUnDDHAts^^ -by mmc

i'm proud to be NOTHING

March 16, 2012 - It's already 2:55am but I just can't sleep. Maybe, i'm too preoccupied with what's-next-in-my-life thoughts. I'm exchanging SMS with Janz who's having her night duty re: next places to visit. I told myself to go to bed at 3am so before fixing my things (laptop, papersssss, pen), i reached for my Bible to read even just a verse. My habit is to just open my Bible randomly and read whatever underlined verse I see. and so, hooooopppppzzzz:

Jeremiah 1:5 'Before I formed you in the womb I knew you....'

Amen! He is indeed my Maker!

In the Bible, God was telling that line to Jeremiah re:his calling, but this message is also spoken to us, especially during this time of confusion when we sometimes don't know where to stand, why we're living in this mad world...

Isn't it amazing that we were NOTHING (as in .......) yet we're in God's universal plan?! This makes me realize:

a. Sometimes, i tend to think I've no worth anymore. i don't think of ending my life though but i do ask God to take it. After such 'emo' moments, i came to realize i have soooooo many awaiting things to accomplish. It is indeed when we feel we're nothing, casting our glories into the dust, that God can use/mold us. Logic: If He had made us beautiful1 out of nothing (or from dirty mud/dust), then He has something great for us when we feel we're nothing/unworthy.

b. "BEFORE my dad met my mom, GOD KNEW ME!" That means I'm important! I'm special! For why should a great big GOD think of a NONE-me if i'm not? This makes sense: I am living for a reason. He has something for me! i have a calling to do!

c. BEFORE i was even formed, GOD KNEW ME! He knows i'll be breaking His heart but He still gave me the privilege to live. This is how He loves me! He patiently waits for me with open arms to go to Him, and turn away from worldly things.

Friends, GOD KNOWS YOU - every thing of you! He knows your ups and downs. He's with you! If you just realize how much He loves and cares for you... Let's heed His voice! Let's go bakc to our Master Maker, Who knows our name among billions of people!

If only we meant what we sing in church:
All to Jesus, I surrender;
All to Him, I freely give....

Suddenly i found myself doodling with my reflection. and i ended writing at 3:49am. i may be blur here but i thank God for opening my eyes to this amazing fact.^^ To God be the glory!

1- Psalm 139 "...fearfully and wonderfully made..."
Genesis 1:26 "...created in God's image..."

Janz & i: Botanical Garden, SG

So, here. I'm going to start writing re:Janice and May's jalan jalan mode. Since we resolved to tour the interesting (if possible, free) places of Singapore, I always express my desire of writing about our 'trips'. I miss writing. I've been trying to write but it always ends up in my mind then whooosh...to the forgotten bin. Anyway, now that i have someone to help me, (ahem, FYI, Janz was our photojournalist during our final high school year^^) i might as well start or else i'd be pressed (of which i miss also -- ma'am Charyl! hehe). Okie dokie, i'll start from the beginning, heha...

August 28, 2011 - Amen. We ended our Bible study on the book of Galatians led by Mr. Peter Gregory. i rushed to the lift as i was so excited to meet one of my best friends whom i met in high school. Janice just arrived in SG just some few days and i arranged to meet her before she starts working at her designated nursing home. I had a hard time getting my way amidst sea of faces in ION mall as it's Sunday (shopping day?).

Gee, i'm sorry, i'm late with our appointment; i walked from ION to Botanical Garden.^^ I was actually shocked when i saw her because she has grown horizontally (^^ peace, friend). She was with her mom Violeta and aunt. We had lots of stories so they let us roam around the place while they rested under the trees.

The following pictures will tell you more about our short garden trip:

He signed when i asked for a sign

SIGN...
Why not try? I asked myself.

A few weeks ago, my best friend, Clair, told me about her experience of asking God for a sign. She's been wanting to work a li'l bit far from home and there's an offer for her. Though tempted to grab the chance, she first inquired God about it by asking for a sign: If she will see a white butterfly the next day, then that job is not for her. Sure enough the next day, she saw a small, white butterfly along her way. This means she will let go of a 'good chance' but she trusted in God. Until now, I don't know what God's plan is awaiting her. But you see, my best friend's place is a crowded area where you seldom or never see butterflies...and puff! There goes the sign...Isn't it amazing?^^

So with that, I also tried. Well, to admit, I've been asking signs when I was younger, but i also have to admit that during those times, i some kinda manipulated the events. Lacking faith, eh...

Last week, one of my older sisters asked me to help her find a job for her here in my place. I did go to an agency that Monday afternoon but the staff are busy so i and my best friend, Gretch, went jalan-jalan. Since I'll be on night duty the next day, i told myself to go back to the agency the next morning.

Tuesday. I did wake up early but i felt lazy to go out. My manana habit started to bite me again. While having breakfast, i went to our backdoor and looked up at the mango tree behind the home. I silently talked to God, telling Him that if i see a squirrel on that mango tree within two minutes, then that means He wants me to go to Lucky Plaza and inquire at the agency (wow, S-M-A-R-T). For several seconds, I didn't see any movement from the tree, then...Whoops, out jumped a squirrel from (?) nowhere.... Ah, Lord, OK, so You want me to go there. And off, i went to LP.

The agency was closed when i got there so i walked, sight-seeing in the nearby shops. Then i remembered that i need to buy top-up card for my broadband so that i can upload the video i am preparing for my Ate Rhod's birthday. After getting info at LBC, I looked around for a top-up card. I didn't find any; the shop where we usually buy cards is closed. Maybe, God wanted me not to buy; obviously, i don't have much money. i laughed to myself. Asking Him for another sign, i told Him that if i go back to the agency and it's still closed, then that means i don't buy. well, shrug, it's closed so i didn't buy. May Your will be done, Lord, i silently prayed.

i decided to go back home and as i walked down, i met the agent. i followed him to the agency and discussed for awhile and then i went back home.i relayed the message to my sister about it...and i slept.

that night, our boss, who just came from a three-month work at New Zealand, dropped to check the home. i reminded him of the inpatient medical record for June...and he sat down and started to work on it until he finished at past 2AM, hehe (i just reminded, it's not a rush hihi)... and y'knowhat? he gave me the password for the wifi in our area...woooooowwww!!!!God's sooooo gooooodddd!!!! i dunno what more to say...every time, i'm so overwhelmed with His providence...He's so marvelous!!!

friends, keep up your faith. let's always TRUST in HIM!

9/4/11 Dusk of his life

Tears welled up in my eyes as I held his hand and assured him that Jesus loves him. Deep in my heart, I could feel that his time here on earth is VERY near to end.

He’s not my relative…but I still felt hurt. I just tried to feed him his breakfast but he kept on coughing productively. I could see that he’s in pain as I wiped the tears rolling down his cheeks.

Recalling the events during the last three nights (of which, I was on night duty – alone), I thank God for answering all my prayers: First, that this old man did not pass away during my shift (duh, I’m alone; I don’t like to disturb my tired friends) and second, that all residents slept well.

But on those night duties, I can’t avoid to feel spine-chilled (hmm, human nature). At the middle of the quiet night, Bed 62 pressed the call bell so I ran down to the first floor to attend to him. He told me to give him his blue bed(?) (or bag?) pointing at the foot part of his bed. I saw only a blue chair and showed it to him. He shook his head and said there are three ‘beds’, two are white and the third is blue and is for him. He asked me to call Tom, our general worker, because he knows it. But I told him that I cannot disturb Tom because he has to rest and wake up early to prepare their breakfast and I reassured him that I’ll inform Tom the next day. Hmmm, I remember last week after Eli’s night duty and I was on day duty. Before I bathe him, he told me that someone came to his room that night with a green bag, like sleeping bag. Hayooooww…

I asked him if he knows Jesus; he shook his head. I told him that Jesus loves him, died for him, and can forgive his sins. I, then, prayed for him and he slept at least three hours and called me exactly for his breakfast.

SECOND NIGHT. His daughter asked me to give anything to bluff him on that blue thing that he is asking for to comfort him. I tried to tell her that once I gave him a real blue thing, he will pass away, but she seemed not to mind what I said and just told me that I do whatever I can to make him comfortable and live better. She told me that he related to her that there are three men below his TV and one of them is a god. She then asked if it’s their Chinese god but he said no. He said that He’s the One on the cross, so she took him to our nursing home altar. After his relatives left, I talked to him and prayed for him telling him again that Jesus loves him.

So far, that night he just called me to change his sleeping position.

THIRD CREEPY NIGHT. The daughter confronted me of not giving that blue thing to him (he told her). I told her that he never asked and tried again to tell her that once I give it, it’s his end (because he said that that blue bed was offered by ‘God’ and will make him sleep so well). He was coughing productively (I remember Mr. Naidu before he passed away; I cleaned his mouth several times because of thick phlegm) and starts to become breathless. I prepared his PRN Morphine. As I entered his room, his relatives were silently crying. I just kept quiet and showed them my empathy, administered the medicine, and gave them privacy. Before leaving, his daughter once more reminded me to provide the comfort that he needs.

That night, I was busy until midnight when all residents were settled in bed. Then the call bell rang and the screen showed that familiar figure 62. I ran down to see him. He asked me of that blue thing again. I tried to bluff him pulling up the white blanket and reassured him. He pulled it up and said, “Not this, the blue one, like this”, pointing at the blue color on my uniform. I then told him that there’s no blue bed in the room; he keeps on insisting that there is. He then pleaded that I let him sit at the wheelchair. As I propped him up and let him sit the edge of the bed, he said, “There are two men sitting there.” I felt goose bumps as he pointed at the empty space in front of us. He then pushed away the wheelchair and said he doesn’t like to sit anymore. So I helped him lie down again.

I didn’t say anything but he again mentioned that there were two men sitting there. I uttered a silent prayer and whispered, “Go away, Satan!”

Thinking he is sleeping, I turned to the door when he called my name and asked his friend’s name. I told him I don’t know and that I’ll ask his daughter the next day. But he keeps on asking about it. I just told him again that Jesus loves him, and he said that He’s his friend. So I stayed a little longer and prayed WITH him. Helping him to fold his hands, I prayed thanking God and asking for forgiveness of our sins. He then told me “OK” meaning I can go.

At least every 30 minutes, he rang the bell and I went down carrying my Bible and read him some verses until 3am. Starting this time, there were no calls from him making me worried. So from time to time, I went down to check on him – if he is still breathing. Thank God, he slept well until 7:30am this morning when I woke him up for his breakfast.

I was wiping my tears when the hand phone beeped. It was a message from Dr. Bel, our boss, reminding me and the others to update her every after shift on the residents’ status. I reported that everything’s ok except for Mr. SLS who is breathless, has phlegm, very weak, has hallucinations, etc. etc..

Before going off from duty, I told him that I am going to church today and I will remember him in my prayers. He nodded his head. Before I went to church, I peeped in his room and bade him goodbye.

I came back that evening and I first checked his room – empty. Disregarding the thought that he passed away, I thought that maybe they transferred him to the open dorm. I saw my on-duty friends and they informed me that he drew his last breath at 3pm. Another friend told me that he uttered these words to her: “Bye bye, May.”

Thank God, I did my part. I cared for him, partially out of work, but mostly of my caring nature. I treated him like my own grandpa. And above all, I am happy I was able to impart to him about Jesus’ love. Thank You, Lord, for our lives. And for Mr. SLS, I will always remember that day when you mentioned you appreciate and like my songs. And for the bereaved family, thank you for the trust and for the food goodies.^^

creepy... for me

weird...but i hope i'm wrong.

i thought it's eli's phone beeping and she's just in the other room. but my ears tell me the sound came from above, opposite the other room. and then...

there's the beep again..and again...then, KLAAGG!!

the blinds on the window above me hit the wall.but... it's not windy at all...

with the warm water caressing and soothing my tired body, i just shrugged and continued enjoying my night shower and i thought of my sweet rest after a grueling 14-hour duty.

after hanging my clothes to dry, i proceeded to the kitchen to throw eli's nappy. my friends are eating their favorite foods.

beep!

i felt my blood rise and my face get hot. i looked back and saw this person whom i trust clicking a... is that a cam? mp4? definitely not a cellphone.

shrug! Breathe deeply...inhale...exhale..whew...

hopefully, i'm mistaken.

the next day, i went out to see what is outside our staff toilet -- a ladder near our window...?! hmm i know, it is placed on that side, but i don't think it should be that near the toilet window.

am i getting paranoid?

(feeling na kung feeling)

anyway, i didn't change my treatment to that person. who am i to judge him... only God knows what really happened... what's more important is i lost nothing. he may see me naked, i don't care. God is with me. let God be the Judge.
